Face of JC Found in Irish Peeball Back
A Tipperary village was brought to a standstill this week by what’s being called the Miracle of Slievenamuck. Father Keith Harrington was playing Peeball with his friend Gerard O’Driscoll in Michael’s Bar in the village when, after a particularly poor stand by the priest, O’Driscoll noticed something remarkable in the trough…

“I’ve known Father Keith for a number of years now,” O’Driscoll said, “He’s always been a very religious man. We were having our weekly game of Peeball, in Michael’s as usual, and as he dribbled to a halt, I could barely believe it, but I immediately recognised a face in the half-dissolved ball. ”.

For Father Keith himself, the realisation that he had produced Ireland’s first holy Peeball artefact didn’t strike home until his friend pointed it out.

“At first I was just concerned that I had lost my money to Gerard,” said Father Harrington. “When he pointed out that what was left of the ball looked like Jack Charlton, I didn’t believe him. At first look I thought it bore a passing resemblance to a young Christ, but on further examination, in the right light, you could definitely see the likeness to Big Jack”.

This likeness prompted a flood of pilgrims to the once unassuming pub’s gents. Hundreds of ecstatic supporters have poured into Michael’s since rumours of the ‘miracle’ escaped. As the word has spread and the flow of pilgrims turned from a trickle to a torrent, dozens of women and men have been carried from the gents in tears and speaking in tongues, although sceptics have pointed out that this may be due to the smell.

Michael Woods, the owner of Michael’s, made the following statement.

“I’m more of a hurling man myself, but I could definitely see the face of Big Jack in the Peeball. We’ve been very supportive of the game since it was launched here. I’d just like to say that Peeballs are available from the bar and this week we’re having an unrepeatable promotion on selected drinks between 6 and 9 every evening. For the best night out in Tipperary, visit Michael’s. Why, even Jack Charlton turns up every now and again”.
